Live the Summer and get the your fill of energy

The beneficial effects of magnesium and potassium on our physical and mental well-being.

As summer’s heat came on, feeling without energy is quite common. Therefore, we need the right amount of minerals and vitamins for our well-being, and often nutritional supplements – with an innovative formula – can be a valid aid.

The causes of fatigue – especially when it is not a matter of sporadic events – must always be investigated in depth, with the help of the general practitioner or, sometimes, consulting a specialised doctor. However, if there are no particular reasons related to specific pathologies to justify the feeling of fatigue, it can be a rather common phenomenon which occurs entering the summer season.

One of the causes can be identified in the diet: a weight loss diet or a different lifestyle can be cause of stress, fatigue and exhaustion.

It is also known that the heat causes an increase in sweating and the consequent loss of fluids: up to 1-2 liters of water per day for a person at rest and up to 10-12 liters for an athlete under intensive training. Sweat, however, also causes the loss of several macroelements – mostly mineral salts, such as magnesium and potassium – which are precious for human health.

Herebelow, we find out more about these salts, what they are for and why they are considered essential for our health.

Potassium is necessary for the function of all living cells: it ensures normal muscle function, helps the body to react to the feeling of exhaustion and fatigue, and it plays a fundamental role in maintaining blood pressure and proper body hydration.

Magnesium is present in every cell type in every organism. It is essential for energy metabolism, for functioning of muscle and nervous system, and contributes to the electrolyte balance of the body.

Other essential microelements to overcome the feeling of seasonal tiredness are iron and zinc.

Iron participates in various metabolic processes (such as DNA synthesis) and contributes to the production of hemoglobin – the protein contained in blood cells, allowing the transport of oxygen through the tissues – which is a fundamental process to guarantee vital functions, contributing to reduce tiredness and fatigue, too.

Zinc promotes the proper functioning of hormonal and immune systems, and contributes – among other things – to normal cognitive function. It is also an important ally of the health of skin, hair, nails and bones, and it cooperates in the correct functioning of the reproductive system.

Vitamins perform an energizing function, too. In particular: ascorbic acid (or vitamin C) support the immune system and reduce tiredness and fatigue; thiamine (or vitamin B1) contributes to the functioning of the nervous and cardiovascular system.

The food supplements also include some essential amino acids – such as arginine and beta-alanine, organic compounds naturally produced by the human body – to increase muscle tone, strength and endurance. This is the reason because natural supplements can be a valid aid to face the heat of summer with serenity and – in addition to an healthy and balanced diet – to overcome temporary conditions of physical and mental stress.
